TEFL certification means that you’ve successfully completed an accredited course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).
If you want to teach English abroad you’ll normally need TEFL certification – it’s your proof to schools that you’ve been trained in TEFL and will know what to do when faced with a classroom full of students on day 1 of your first TEFL job!
However, it’s worth knowing that TEFL is not the name of a specific qualification or certification. Rather TEFL is a generic term for teaching English language to non-native English speakers. This means it’s important you check what’s actually included in any TEFL course you’re considering – as both a short TEFL taster session and an in-depth TEFL certification programme could be labelled as a TEFL course.
