Interested in getting paid to teach English in Cambodia? Then our Paid Cambodia TEFL Internship is perfect for you. Especially if you don’t have a degree, as you won’t need one for this internship!

Register your interest

You’ll kick off your internship in Cambodia by completing our 120-Hour TEFL course (this will be needed for your visa application), and it’s jam-packed full of all the information you need to know to become an amazing TEFL teacher. You’ve then got an Internship Preparation Course, in which you’ll find out all about what to expect on your Cambodia internship.

After this, you’ll be jetting off to the “Kingdom of Wonder” (aka Cambodia) where you’ll be picked up at the airport by our in-country partners and taken to a welcome dinner, so you can meet all your fellow interns and start to settle in.

Next step, getting to know Cambodia! For the first 5 days you’ll have an in-country cultural orientation, with information and activities centred around the Cambodian language, culture, history, and food. You’ll have a brilliant experience and it will really help you to get to know the country you’ll be living in for the next year.

Over the next 12 months of TEFL teaching Cambodia, you’ll get hands-on teaching experience in a Cambodian classroom, putting your TEFL skills and knowledge into practice. You will be placed in either a private school (K12) or a language school and could be teaching students of a range of ages, usually from young learners to teenagers. You will also have plenty of spare time away from the classroom to explore everything that Cambodia has to offer, from the ancient temples of Angkor Wat to the beautiful island beaches. This wonderful country, full of friendly locals, delicious foods, and amazing experiences, will not disappoint!

Frequently asked questions

What qualifications do I need to teach English in Cambodia?

Cambodia is one of the most accessible countries in Asia for new teachers! While a bachelor’s degree isn’t mandatory, having one can open more doors. The key requirement is strong, fluent English and a TEFL certification (which you can complete as part of our internship in Cambodia package).

How much can I earn teaching TEFL in Cambodia?

TEFL jobs in Cambodia pay their teachers a generous salary of between 700-1,000 USD, enough to cover rent, utilities, food, and daily expenses, with extra left over for weekend trips and exploring Cambodia’s cultural sites. Salaries vary by city, school type, and your qualifications, and many teachers increase their income through private tutoring or extra classes.

What is the demand for English Teachers in Cambodia?

The demand for TEFL teaching Cambodia is consistently strong and growing. In bustling hubs like Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, TEFL jobs in Cambodia can be found year-round, and new language centers and private schools are opening all the time.

Are there any age restrictions for teaching English in Cambodia?

Cambodia is welcoming to teachers at many stages of life. From recent graduates seeking their first adventure abroad to mid-career changers and older professionals, there’s space for a wide range of ages in Cambodian classrooms.

What is the cost of living in Cambodia for English Teachers?

TEFL teaching Cambodia offers a low cost of living and a relaxed lifestyle. Accommodation, local food, and transport are very affordable compared to Western countries, and many teachers enjoy eating out regularly, joining social activities, and travelling around the region.

Where will I be teaching?

phnomh penh

Phnom Penh

The bustling capital city is always alive with noise, delicious food smells, and people galore! It’s the perfect location for those who love a buzzing atmosphere and hate missing out, as there is always something new to experience. It’s also become a haven for foodies, hosting some of the best restaurants in the country. More of a history buff? Phnom Penh and the surrounding area host a number of very important historical sites, including the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek and the Genocide Museum.

siem reap

Siem Reap

Well known for the incredible temples of Angkor, there is more to Siem Reap than meets the eye. The temples are indeed amazing, and well worth spending multiple days exploring, but the city itself also provides an uplifting experience. It’s ideal for those seeking a more relaxed and peaceful vibe, with the locals the friendliest you’ll find in Cambodia (and this is high praise as EVERYONE is friendly). You'll also find a number of spas, creatively designed hotels, and informal, trendy bars to enjoy.

cambodia

Other locations

Although most TEFL jobs are in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, there are other locations available for teaching English Cambodia. Looking for that small-town feel? Well, look no further than beautiful Battambang. This laid-back city, with its scenic riverside placement is a pleasant mix of tradition, with original Khmer housing and ancient hilltop temples, and modernity, with art galleries and chic coffee shops. Want a really authentic historical place to go? Serei Saophoan (known locally as 'Sisophon') could be right up your street. It has the Banteay Chhmar temple complex nearby, which offers a calmer and less tourist-filled experience of Cambodian temples than Siem Reap. Tourism facilities are also run by a local group dedicated to preserving their cultural heritage, so you'll have a positive impact on the local community by visiting! Krong Poi Pet is another location option, and it's ideal for those looking to travel to multiple countries during their internship, as it borders Thailand!
