The Best Things About Indonesia

After living in Indonesia for two years, I have discovered some things that will break my heart when I have to leave them behind.  Perhaps if you find yourself living in Indonesia, you will also find a love for the following… here are the best things about Indonesia!

Nasi goreng:  Nasi goreng is Indonesian for “fried rice” and it’s absolutely delicious!  However, the calorie count is about the same as a medium pizza, so it’s best not to eat it all the time!

The weather:  There are only two seasons here: rainy season and dry season. Every day in Jakarta, Indonesia, warm weather is a guarantee and I love it!

Batik:  Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to a whole cloth, or cloth made using this technique. I have fallen in love with the Batik clothing here… at first I didn’t like it, but now I adore it, although I believe it’s definitely an acquired taste.

Ojek:  These are motorbike guys that you pay to drive you short distances. As I can’t ride a motorbike, I’ll definitely pay an ojek to take me around town!

Bogor:  Bogor is a beautiful city about an hour’s drive from Jakarta, and whilst the weather can be a bit chilly there, it’s absolutely worth your time if you come to Indonesia.  If you like mountains, cool weather, friendly people, beautiful scenery and grilled corn you should definitely visit breath-taking Bogor.  I haven’t even left the country yet but I already feel nostalgia towards the city!

Even though they’re my 5 best things about Indonesia, this beautiful country has so much more to offer that I didn’t even mention… with over 17,500 islands, Indonesia is a stunning country; and you’ll find whilst either visiting or living in the country, that there are a seemingly unlimited number of beautiful things to discover.  Please remember to pack an open-mind and a sense of adventure, and you’re sure to fall in love with the place like I have!  Namaste, friends.
