48 hours in Koh Samet, Thailand

Koh Samet is an idyllic island in the Gulf of Thailand, known for it’s sparkling beaches, lush green foliage and adrenaline-fuelled water sports – and it happens to be a popular weekend getaway destination for locals.

If you’ve found yourself with couple of days to spend on this picturesque isle, here’s a quick guide on the best stop-offs and must-sees to pay attention to while you’re there…

Khao Laem Ya–Mu Ko Samet National Park

At 131 square kilometers, the National Park takes up most of Koh Samet plus an archipelago off shore. You could spend days exploring this veritable adventure playground but you can fit plenty in in just a few hours, we reckon. You can start by taking a walk on a wooden trail along the edge of the mountains and soaking up panoramic views of the whole island and beyond. Feeling relaxed yet?

Sai Kaew Beach

If you visit Koh Samet, you must get to at least one beach per day and Sai Kaew is a great place to start. Whiter-than-white sand, the clearest blue waters and more speed boats around than you can count! So, if you fancy a white-knuckle ride in between tanning and paddling, hop on!

Sunset Point

In the evening, take a leisurely walk down to the west side of the island to Sunset Point. There, you’ll see – you guessed it – an incredible sunset. Or if you fancy making an event of it, you can book a sunset cruise for the entire evening and sip on some bubbles while enjoying the view – we’re off to pack our bags!

Snorkelling off the southern tip

One thing Thailand is always great for: a good snorkel. Off the southern tip of Koh Samet, you’ll be greeted with multi-coloured ferns and corals, starfish, black-tipped sharks, stingrays and barracudas, to name a few! Make sure you find some time to explore the water as well as the land – it’s definitely worth it.

Jet-skiing, wind-surfing and flyboarding

For all of you adrenaline junkies – there’s plenty to choose from all over Koh Samet. The most recent addition is flyboarding which you can try your hand at – just make sure you get a video!

If you like the look of Koh Samet, have a nosy at our TEFL Course & Internship: Thailand Volunteer. You can add on a 5-night beach trip to this very island for an additional cost. Take a peek here.
