Live and teach in Spain for 9 months

Spain Internship Orientation

Rachel, Spain TEFL Internship If fully embraced, this experience, like all real adventures, will change you! You will learn and grow in terms of independence and ability more than you ever expected.

Rachel, Spain

What stands out from the experience is how generous everybody in the school is, throughout the year I have had the opportunity to take part in so many culturally rich events which the school so wonderfully and successfully celebrates, I’ve always been made to feel part of the celebration.

Jon, Spain

I am amazed at how these busy families open their homes to a stranger and in no time at all make them feel like a member of their family, and not just the immediate family, I’m talking about grandparents, aunts, cousins, godsons, great uncles twice removed, and all other distant relations.

Callie, Spain

Overview

Must hold a passport from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand

Live and work in Spain for a real Mediterranean experience! This 9 month paid Spanish Internship will give you the chance to live like a true European in sunny Spain. Get ready to sample some of the local tapas, head to Spain’s famous beaches and embrace the siesta after a fiesta! You’ll be placed in a carefully selected Spanish school where you’ll be assisting the teacher in English lessons, gaining invaluable teaching experience and helping students develop their English skills.

With a great living allowance you’ll be able to enjoy exploring this amazing country. You’ll be placed in a homestay with a local Spanish family who’ll be there for you throughout your time in Spain. Be sure to make the most of living with your host family! They’ll be able to recommend where you should go in your free time, help you pick up the local phrases and provide support whilst you settle into a new way of life. By the time your placement reaches an end you’ll be speaking the lingo, have made new friends and might even have a second family in Spain!

Day 1

Getting there & Your welcome to Spain

Land at Barcelona International airport (BCN) where you’ll be met by a member from our in-country partners and transferred to your hotel. You’ll get the chance to meet the other interns during your orientation with fun ice breakers and some time to relax over a welcome meal!

You'll also get to meet the in-country support team who will give you some pointers about living and working in Spain and answer any questions you might have.

Day 2 - 266

Your teaching experience

Get a good night's rest after your jam packed first day in Spain - it's time to meet your new Spanish family! Your host family will pick you up or our in-country partners will arrange transport to your new home for the next 9 months. You'll spend the day together so you can get to know each other and familiarise yourself with your new surroundings. Before you know it you’ll be living like a true Mediterranean!

It's time to get ready to start teaching! As a conversation assistant you'll be working alongside the school's English teacher, helping the students improve their English skills. You’ll be working in one of the carefully selected placement schools, these range from infant right up to secondary. A regular teaching week is from Monday to Friday and you’ll be expected to deliver 25 hours of classroom teaching a week. You'll be expected to do lesson planning and prep outside of your teaching hours. Get stuck into the teaching life and if you’ve got any talents be sure to share these with your students, you could be teaching the next football star or singing sensation!
There’s a series of fun, engaging activities to do with your host family during your stay. This Family Project will help you get to know each other and improve both your language skills.

Day 267

After teaching

At the end of your teaching it’s up to you where you want your TEFL qualification to take you next. Some of our graduates have continued teaching in Spain while others have travelled to different parts of the globe – the world is your oyster!

Where could I be going?

Barcelona

Catalonia

Best known for its famous capital, Barcelona, Catalonia is dense with history, dramatic landscapes and beautiful coastline. Hike through the Pyrenean peaks, explore the ancient culture of Tarragona and marvel at the architecture of Girona. Home to some of Spain’s greatest artists, visit Dali’s bizarre ‘theatre museum’ in Figueres!

Valencia

Valencian Country

With its rugged coast and numerous beaches there’s no shortage of places to head to for a weekend of relaxation. Valencia is the biggest city with a buzzing nightlife, beautiful parks and buildings which fuse the old and the new. Discover the hidden beauty of small coastal towns like Xabia or find the best paella in the region, home of this famous dish!
