Travel to diverse and colourful South America with our Colombia TEFL Experience. The perfect place for you to get 7 weeks’ TEFL teaching experience in a small village school and make a real difference to children’s lives. From the moment you touch down in Barranquilla you’ll have the full support and knowledge of our team, plus you’ll meet a whole bunch of new friends – your fellow interns! Get acquainted with your new home and more importantly the delicious food on offer whilst discovering the history behind this magical country. You’ll be a teaching assistant at a school based in Puerto Colombia, only a few steps away from the beach it’s a relaxed coastal town and this is where your students will be eagerly awaiting your first lesson.
Take full advantage of your free time – whether you want to head to the beach or explore one of Colombia’s lively cities to dance the night away. When you’ve finished your teaching you’ll get a week to sample all there is to offer – whether you choose to trek in Tayrona National Park, discover the Minca coffee plantations or get dirty in the volcanic mud bath in Cartagena.

Trip details
Day 1 Arrival in Colombia
Keep an eye out for the in-country team at Barranquilla airport – you’ll be escorted to the apartment in town where you’ll meet your fellow interns.
Day 2 Welcome to Barranquilla!
The next day you and the rest of the teachers will explore Barranquilla on your orientation day. You’ll learn about the history and culture of Colombia, your role as a teacher in Colombia, and you’ll also get some insider tips from our friendly in-country staff.
Later, you'll settle in with a fantastic welcome meal, the perfect chance to get to know each other.
Day 4 - 48 Your teaching experience
You'll be living in the heart of Barranquilla, so there will be plenty of time for you to get familiar with the city. Get to know your fellow interns and prepare for school the next day!
The school you’ll be teaching at for the next 7 weeks is in the small village of Puerto Colombia, and you’ll journey there each day with the other interns. You’ll have plenty of support at the school and have the chance to really get stuck in to all aspects of varied school life and make the most of your TEFL qualification.
During your teaching experience, weekends and evenings are yours to enjoy, so get out exploring Colombia’s amazing sights! Discover the bustling cities, excellent food, drink and dance that makes Colombia such a popular destination.
Day 49 - 57 A week to explore
Before you know it the teaching will be at an end and you'll be saying goodbye to the staff and children.
Now it's time for you to relax! You’re free to spend a week exploring Colombia to your heart’s content. Head to epic Tayrona National Park, hit up the Minca coffee plantations or spend the time lazing on the beach – you won’t want to leave!

What you need:
- Be fluent in English
- Be aged 18+
- Be ready for an adventure teaching English abroad
What you don't need:
- Prior teaching experience
- A second language
You’ll need to be TEFL trained to teach in Colombia – but with our 120 Hour TEFL Course included in the price, we’ve got you covered.
- 120 hours online TEFL training – study anywhere, on any device and get the skills you need to teach English confidently.

What will I need to organise?
Before you travel, there are a few things you need to sort. Keep things easy for yourself and don’t leave them ‘til the last minute!
- International Flights: You’ll require return flights to Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ).
- Visas: Free visa for 90 days (British nationals only).
- Budget: We recommend budgeting approximately £45/$75 per week.
- Police check: You must carry a clean police check. For the UK you’ll need to pay approximately £25 for a Disclosure Scotland. For all other countries, please consult your local police department (costs may vary).
- Travel insurance: this is really important – don’t forget to sort yours before you travel! Travel insurance can be complicated – so click here for some great advice from our friends at the FCO.
