More on Volunteering in New Zealand
New Zealand has been a popular choice for travellers for many years, and if adventure, stunning scenery and getting stuck in in the great outdoors is on your travel wish list then we reckon New Zealand is the place for you, volunteer! (Besides, there’s no better way to get involved within the community than to lend a hand).
New Zealand (or Aotearoa, the Maori name which means the ‘land of the long white cloud’) is one of the 'most recently' populated major islands, mainly due to its remoteness. It wasn’t settled until the early 1000s when the Polynesians arrived and they created the distinctive Maori culture. The Maori only had a spoken language with no written language, alcoholic drinks or drugs, however their culture and spiritual life was rich and they worshipped a mix of gods of the land, forest and sea.
Aside from becoming a conservation volunteer, we recommend that volunteers explore the country in their free time - there’s so much to see. How about a trip to Christchurch or Auckland perhaps? Make sure you bring your hiking boots too, New Zealand has won a host of awards over the years for its incredible walks, and we wouldn’t want you to miss out on all of the adventure!
