We’ve been following the story of Claire and Anthony: a British couple who quit their jobs as physics teachers to travel the world, with a 5 month stop in China to teach English. On the 9th February 2015, Claire and Anthony travelled to South East Asia for a two week trip round Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, before jetting off to Beijing on the start of their TEFL internship with i-to-i and ImmerQi.
During this time, Claire and Anthony were greeted at the airport by a giant panda upon arriving in China, have undertaken practical TEFL training where they learnt Latvian to see what it would be like in the classroom for their Chinese students, and got plenty of teaching practice, through planning different activities.
The orientation week also saw Claire and Anthony (along with the other interns) learn some Mandarin, enjoy a welcome dinner where they got to try many Chinese delicacies, and try some tai chi amongst other things!
Claire and Anthony have since been placed in a school in Wuxi in the Jiangsu province, just under an hour away from Shanghai, and are enjoying every second of it!
If all of this has inspired you to start your very own TEFL adventure, you could take part in the next China internship! You’ll need to be 45 or under, but if you if book a space, you’ll get to enjoy the following:
– Great monthly allowance of 2,500 RMB
– Free accommodation with bills included
– Full in-country support from our expert partners, ImmerQi
– Socialising opportunities with a network of interns who are in exactly the same position as you
You can find out more information about the China internship here; or alternatively, if you like the sound of a TEFL internship but China just isn’t for you, you can take a look at the programmes to Thailand and Vietnam.
Stay tuned for further updates from Claire and Anthony – we’re really looking forward to seeing what they get up to in China!
