Too little money, too many responsibilities: everyone’s got some lame excuse for not getting out there to see the world. What’s yours?
If you won the lottery tomorrow, you’d probably jet off to some far-flung corner of the planet. But why wait until you win the lottery, or until you retire? Why aren’t you travelling?!
So you’re not a millionaire, you don’t need to be. There are over 2 billion people all over the world learning English, meaning fluent English speakers (that’s you!) are like gold dust. All you need is to do a TEFL course and you’ll be able to apply for paid work all over the world. You will need to get some money together for your TEFL course (which can be as little as £150/$200), then the flight out to wherever you’ll be calling home for the next 6-12 months, but it’s not going to break the bank. Some employers, such as these ones in Georgia, will even cover the cost of your flight. Find out how to make it happen by downloading your free copy of TEFL Uncovered: How to Teach Your Way Abroad with TEFL: https://www.i-to-i.com/contact/tefl-ebook.html.
Be honest with yourself, is your job something you really want to do, something you’re really passionate about, or just something that pays the bills? Thought so. And if that’s the case, why stick at it for the next 40-odd years until you retire and are too old to enjoy life? Why not enjoy life NOW!
Friends and Family
Who doesn’t love their friends and family? It’s human nature. With the wonders of the internet, even if you’re on the other side of the world, you’re only ever a Skype call away. Plus, traveling, especially if you’re teaching overseas, is a fantastic way to make lots of wonderful new friends.
There are lots of things associated with traveling and moving abroad to be scared of: being lonely, being unable to communicate with people, hating the food, getting hurt. Ultimately though, the best way to get over these fears is to face them head on. Lonely? You’ll make new friends. Unadventurous eater? Almost everywhere in the world has western-style supermarkets. Unable to communicate? Get a phrasebook and a sense of imagination. And as for getting hurt, you could always get run over by a bus tomorrow. Much better to get run over by a bus somewhere cool.
Run out of excuses yet? If you’re ready to start traveling, one of the best ways to do it is to teach abroad. If you’re a fluent English speaker, all you need is a TEFL course and you can start working and living in amazing places all over the world.
