World AIDS Day 2006

It’s time to say enough. Enough orphaned children (25 million by 2010). Enough new infections (15,000 daily). Enough dying (approximately 25 million to date). Enough with AIDS.

Friday, December 1st marks World AIDS Day 2006, where citizens on every continent in every nation are remembering those lost and saying enough to the world’s deadliest, preventable disease.

Sub-Saharan Africa is a major area where people are suffering from AIDS, the epidemic widely regarded as the largest humanitarian crisis on the planet. At i-to-i Meaningful Travel, we provide hundreds of people with the opportunity to volunteer worldwide and make a real difference.

i-to-i has teamed up with children’s homes, orphanages and community health centers in Africa to get volunteers in on the ground level. The shelters offer children safe, supportive homes, basic education and a chance at life.

This makes a greater impact than putting a red ribbon on a shirt. Volunteers put their feet on the ground and hope in people’s hearts. Energy is directed where it is really needed — to those who are suffering from AIDS, as well as those orphaned by it.

“I had an amazing time in Kenya. Working with the orphans gave me a feeling of having done something worthwhile,” said Dee Grismend, i-to-i volunteer in Kenyan orphanages. “This has got to be the best thing I’ve ever done. I can’t recommend it highly enough!”

Many of these homes rely entirely on the energy and contributions of their local communities. Consequently, funding and staffing are limited so help is urgently required.

The world has seen the rise of AIDS long enough.

Be a part of a new set of rising numbers — People making an impact.
