Dominica - Community Development:"My volunteering work in Dominica with a summer school program was a wonderful experience, one that I will always treasure. Currently I am a teacher in Connecticut so it was interesting to discover the similarities and differences between children in two drastically different parts of the world. These students appreciate just having a teacher. They showed up to school early every morning, always eager to learn. Each day we had more and more students. We broke the students into groups by ability and taught reading and writing. Towards the end of class we taught a craft: making bracelets, designing butterflies, even card games and kickball. These children were so appreciative of anything and all that we did with them. The enthusiasm and smiles from these students made my heart swell. I only wish I could have had more time with them."
