Thailand News Update
There have been a series of demonstrations in Bangkok during recent months, this is due to the People`s Movement for Democracy protesting against the President as they are wanting him to step down. During May the demonstrations reached a peak resulting in the current government taking military action to remove the demonstrators from central Bangkok. More recently there have been sporadic reports of explosions in Bangkok which may be related to the political situation. There are no current demonstations in Bangkok and all areas are calm although our in-country team continue to monitor safety in all areas where our trips and projects operate.
All the projects used by i-to-i are situated away from Bangkok and are not affected by these demonstrations. With the assistance of local, dedicated staff, i-to-i is continuously monitoring the situation on the ground to ensure that the our volunteers remain unaffected. Our volunteers are fully briefed on arrival into Thailand and are advised on how to stay safe while they are there and to avoid any public demonstrations. We also monitor Travel Advice stated by the Foreign and Commonwealth office (FCO UK) which advises to exercise caution and avoid public demonstrations. Please review the Travel Advice from your home country for up-to-date information.
