June 2007 Winner
Here's our first winner, Jessica Gray of Minnesota, USA, in the 'Getting to know the locals' category. In her own words:
"It was taken last July, next to Lake Tana. I was in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, for the summer as a volunteer teacher. My students would take me on walks to the lake everyday, and we would see the shepherd boys. They would always keep their distance from us, especially when they saw our cameras. However, on my last trip to the lake, this boy approached me and allowed me to take his picture. I believe it encompasses the Ethiopian countryside and the beauty of the Ethiopian people."
It's a great choice of subject, composition and lighting, and captures the atmosphere perfectly.
