Isn't it better to give money?

Money is rarely the answer to complicated development issues; if it was, the poverty problems in the world would be getting better. Short-term aid relief can cause aid-reliance and financial instability. What benefits projects more than short-term financial aid relief is a sustainable framework to ensure they develop and last.

If money is paid directly to projects then they become dependent on the West for funding. If that country or project becomes unpopular then the money dries up and they are no longer able to continue with their good work. Supplying projects with enthusiastic volunteers creates a constant supply of helpful hands.

We don’t believe in the subordination of the developing world. The answers to questions of development should come from developing countries themselves, rather than from the pockets of the Western world. i-to-i believes it’s vital to keep our non-payment approach and ensure that volunteering remains a way to help projects achieve their goals rather than as a way of generating money.

We also believe that your presence should not cost our projects financially which is why we invest in our support networl overseas so the projects can concentrate on their continued good work.
