Big Giving - From Books to Bricks

A History of Big Giving

Since 2004 i-to-i Meaningful Travel has been helping our projects with items to help them do the great work they're already doing. For the past 6 years this has been through annual funding to provide tangible items that our projects tell us they need. Since July 2010 we have combined the larger donations we already give with more regular funding for our projects that need smaller items; look out for the Big Giving logo for our range of projects that benefit from the Big Giving funds!

2005

Following the tsunami at the end of 2004 we helped our projects heavily hit in Sri Lanka to get back on their feet

  • Paid for the materials and building of new premises for one of our Community work in coastal Sri Lanka projects
  • Renovated one of our Community work with children in Sri Lanka projects to improve sanitation and remedy the health and safety hazards in the house at. The funding allowed them to add four bathrooms, four toilets, and a kitchenette.
  • Replaced 2 tanks, fencing and a water pump at our Sea turtle conservation in Sri Lanka project so that volunteers could carry on their work.  We also supplied them with computers so they could continue to maintain a database of turtle activity allowing definitive measurement of turtle behaviour in this area.
  • Repaired the plumbing and water system at another of our Community work with children in Sri Lanka projects to fix the damp problems that were making the centre unliveable.
