Argentina sounds like a very popular place to visit now that we are in the middle of summer and so many activities are being planned in order to make your Volunteering one of the most meaningful and worthwhile experiences in your life.
Life in Posadas: You may probably be wondering about Posadas now. Well, during the day the famous riverside or 'Costanera' as we call it, is full of joggers, bike riders, or people like
me and Argentina's in-country-coordinator, who want to exercise and go there every day for a walk. We have even convinced some of our Volunteers to join us! Of course you may also find people of all ages who want to take a break from their daily life, or just enjoy some "mates" while they view the amazing scenery. In case you are not aware of it, Mate is Argentina’s national drink, and in Misiones you can also have it cold, in which case it is called 'tereré'. Nightlife is at its best with cafés, bars and clubs and the weather makes everyone want to go out and have some 'daiquiris'. Power disco has opened up some new floors, so music lovers will feel at easy hanging out there.
Close to Posadas you can take day trips to one of the many different touristy places, and hidden spots only local people know and we can recommend! For instance, try spending a day at the 'Salto Encantado fall' and while there take a walk in the jungle and discover two more falls which can only be seen from inside the jungle as there is no other access to them. Spending a weekend at the Corrientes Marshlands known as Esteros del Iberá also sound like a very exciting thing to do. There you will be able to see animals which are found nowhere else in the world, and also take a boat ride in the biggest sweet water reservoir in the world. And then of course, you can not leave Misiones without visiting the ancient Jesuit Ruins, the stunning Iguazú falls, the spectacular Moconá Falls or seeing the remains of Ernesto "Che" Guevara's house in Caraguatay.
You may also consider learning how to tango with some of the best tango dancers of Argentina, learning to cook 'chipas' (cheese balls) or learning how to make mate so as to brag at home?
Our volunteers are really busy showing their will to help and their creativity. The volunteers are working hard on the Community development projects and Animal Rehabilitation Projects as well. In the previous they are re-painting one of the orphanages, building a new room, fixing the electrical problems and helping the kids as much as they can. In the former, they keep themselves busy cleaning out and fixing up new enclosures for the animals, building new cages, preparing the animals' food, feeding them and even helping during operations as Mía, a volunteer from Sweden, has done recently. Feeding a new Mulita baby, helping a bird learn to fly again or just petting some baby wild boards are some of the activities they did last week.
To sum it up... I can assure you will never regret living the Misiones experience and if you are prepared to work hard, get up early and really get involved then I would strongly recommend you give this a go!! It is for sure, a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Hoping to see you in Posadas soon,
Happy travels
