Ethical Travel
Ethical travel is the guiding philosophy of i-to-i and the volunteer projects we support. As people become aware of acting ethically at home by recycling and reducing their carbon footprint, they are demanding sustainable tourism options when they travel. Our international volunteer projects are based in the local community and that’s where you’ll stay and where will directly benefit from your presence as a volunteer. This is both ethically advantageous and satisfying to the volunteer. For example, when you build homes for underprivileged families in Kenya, you’ll be living and eating alongside local Kenyans. After all, how else would you get the opportunity to use herbal remedies from traditional Swaziland healers than if you volunteer to work and live in their community?
At i-to-i we work in partnership with domestic projects because developing local economies and communities is the only way for true development. Should you decide to volunteer for one of our volunteer projects such as community work with children in Accra, Ghana, you’ll work with a sustainable overseas project committed to the local area, so you can rest assured you’ll be contributing to something truly worthwhile as the good work will continue after you leave. Ethical travel is turning travel into a powerful tool for social, economic and environmental change and choosing to volunteer while you travel with i-to-i is a powerful way to make a great difference to the places you visit.
