Cambodia

I visited Cambodia last April and it is a truly incredible place.

One of the highlights of my trip was hanging out with the kids at the orphanage there. It turns out you can play football with anything that can be kicked - rocks, tin cans, dried fruit, bits of cardboard - you name it! All they wanted to do was have some fun and some attention from someone who they didn't have any previous connection to, and who wasn't in any way there to judge them, just to help them.

Their friendly smiles and shouts of greeting were the best bit of my day, and the ringleader, named 'Danger', was the coolest kid I've ever met. Could hardly speak a word of English but knew dinosaur names randomly! (Brontosaurus was his favourite in case you were wondering!)

The people, the kindness, the scenery, the food and the little fish who eat your feet all left me wanting more. :-) And Angkor Wat? I'm rarely lost for words but this beauty really is hard to describe without the risk of not doing it justice. I'm the kind of person who gets bored of museums within 5 minutes and migrates to the cafe instead, but this place? Three days was not enough - it is utterly mindblowing.

I will definitely return at some point in my life and, if anyone reading this is undecided if they should go and volunteer in Cambodia, I say do it. You won't regret it.
