Africa is home to one of the best adventure travel destinations in the world. So whether you want a full on adventure holiday or just want to throw some high adrenaline activities in with your volunteering, Africa is the perfect place to do it.
When thinking about adventure in Africa, this is the first thing you have to ask. Because let’s face it, there’s nowhere better in the world for safari than Africa. Some people consider it to be an adventure activity, others don’t. So we’re giving it a mention, acknowledging that Africa does it better than everyone else, then moving on.
When travelling to Ghana, the adventure seeker is instantly drawn to the Kakum Canopy Walkway. Suspended in the air, 100 metres above the ground, this precarious walkway sways in the wind as you walk across it. It’s made up of seven swaying bridges that look down upon the scenic forest. So you can combine adventure and sightseeing.
It goes without saying that the most tempting adventure activity in Kenya is climbing. And as challenges go, Mount Kenya offers a pretty good one. It’s the biggest mountain in the country and you’ll get a fantastic view from the top. So if you happen to be in the area, give it a go.
Or if you’d like an activity that’ll set you pulse racing and cool you off all at the same time, head for Mombassa and the coast. You can try your hand at everything from surfing to jet skiing, scuba diving to snorkelling. Which makes this the perfect place to unwind with a spot of adventure.
South Africa is undoubtedly one of the best adventure travel destinations in the entire world. The coast is perfect for all kinds of water sports. So whether you’re a surfer or a scuba diver, a sailor or a water skier, this is the perfect place for you.
How would you like to explore the tallest mountain in Africa? Then head for Tanzania and Kilimanjaro! A spot of climbing is definitely in order in this awe-inspiring mountain landscape. It’s a real challenge, so this is one trip that will be big on satisfaction.
Of course, you don’t have to climb. You could opt for a little hiking instead. The views are just as stunning but you don’t have to put quite so much effort in. Speaking of hiking. Take yourself over to the Ngorongoro Crater. The hiking is fantastic here and the wildlife is unforgettable.
It’s odd, you wouldn’t really think of Uganda as a top adventure travel destination, but it is. You should head to the Jinga, a city that has become known as the adventure capital of East Africa. You could have a go at bungee jumping or zip wire across the Nile.
Or if you’re feeling really adventurous, why not try white water rafting? This is one the best places to do it in the entire world. You can take a short half-day trip or a full on 3-day one. And there’s something for every level too, so whether you’re a beginner or an expert, you’ll find something here for you.
Finally, take time to try the local quad biking. It’s not one of those activities that travellers tend to plan for, but it’s more than worth a go. And aside for getting your pulse racing, it’ll also show you the country.
You’ve heard of the Victoria Falls right? Well it’s the perfect place for a spot of adventure. You could try your hand at bungee jumping, river boarding, canoeing, abseiling and speed boating, and that’s only the beginning. So if you’re travels are taking you through Zambia, make sure the Victoria Falls are high on your to-do list!.
