About Me

I'm Suman =D

I'm 18 and going to uganda in summer 2009 as part of the i-to-i volunteer project.
I think it would be a great experience before I go to university this year to study Economics at Bath University.
My interests are:
Singing (pop, alternative, jazz, classical, indian classical)
Flute
Piano
Dancing
Reading - mostly classics like Austen, but i can't deny Lord of the Rings, and a genuine interest in the world of Harry Potter :P

I like practically all genres of music:
Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th century (excluding atonality like serialism... urgh), pop, jazz, RnB, rock, rap, hip hop, garage, reggae... there are some exceptions but i don't think i need to go on! =D

I'd like to think I'm a friendly and approachable person... anyway, so welcome to my page!

Hiya
Hope you don't mind but I'm shamelessly begging for votes (in 5th place right now!)

This competition literally means everything to me. I'm now truly beginning to discover who I am, and find the path I need to be on. Winning this trip of a lifetime, one that from a financial point of view I cannot ever really seeing myself being able to afford, would literally change my life, shake up my world and give me another perspective. I beg of you to vote for me more than any other competitor, because not only would I use up every single second of it to the nth degree and make the absolute most of it, I think it would make the most of me. A way to make new connections, spark new possibilities, and give light and hope. A trip to expand and explore, my location and my own mind. A trip. Of a lifetime. PLEASE VOTE FOR ME!

Hi Suman! Ah, yes, I see now it says Bath uni. :) I went to Bath recently to stay at a friend's. It's so ridiculously pretty there!
My violin teacher at RCM has some contacts for a charity which is teaching music to disadvantaged children there, and as they need as much help as thy can get, it's free to volunteer with them as they're just grateful for people coming. They're called back-to-life music centre. They help people in slums, people affected with HIV/AIDS and they also teach in a juvenile prison in Kampala. It looks great. I've heard there are LOADS of mosquitos in Uganda. :S Are you taking the malaria pills? Tell me all about it there after you get back.
The violin's a great instrument. :) I love it. Winter's a great piece also. :) My favourite composers are Rachmaninoff, Bach, Beethoven, Shostakovich, Mozart, Britten, Mahler,.. the list goes on and on. :) you?
I'm going to study music at King's. Wow, you're studying economics! Difficult subject! x

hello. I'm planning to go to Uganda in Summer 2010 to teach violin at a music centre. Have you been before? What are you doing there? You'll have to tell me all about it!
And you play classical music. :) Me too. Warwick has a great music centre.
Hope you accept my friend request! x

Hello! :)

You've applied to Warwick?! Me too! Although for Biomedical Science...what did you think of the uni?

Economics sounds tough :)

x

yeah so many exams and rubbish to go through though

yop...i'n not nearly witty enough to say aeroplanes...or sky...

hows u?

well, doing stuff at the weekends sounds cool. i guess we'll just have to go together :)
I am going on my own - I didn't want to be held back by anyone and just wanted to go out there and be myself, meet some new people and make some new friends! i know it sounds like what i'm doing is brave but my sister went to kenya on her own when she was 16 to teach english...so compared to that this is orbably a walk in the park :S
I live in Canterbury (kent) but obviously am in Shef atm. It's a v long way from home sadly, but it makes a change. Sheffield is really good for architecture, it's one of the best schools in he country. although doing the full course is long I am thinking I am just going to be doing the first 3 years, getting a degree and then going into architecture.
Did you book your thing through i-to-i? teach inn is another project run by edirisa which also runs the lake bunyonyi programme (which i am doing, and so are you and ruch by the sounds of things!!!)
You going to look into things to do out there before you go out? there seems to be so much to sort out, it's v hard to balance it with uni life...stil;l haven't sent off my crb forms!
speak soon
