Hi I'm Sukaynah, I'm 29 and recently just booked to go to Kenya with my friend Alison for 2 weeks. July 3rd till the 17th.
We will be volunteering at Tumaini Childrens Home. I'm so nervous but so excited, as I've never done anything like this before. To use of my home comforts. I'm so pleased to be doing this with my friend. We both work at a Children's hospital in London. After we are planning to stay on for an extra couple of days and do a safari.
I've been to Honduras, Kenya and Uganda with i-to-i, 26...
I go to Mombasa on the 1st May for 12...
We've been sending people to volunteer in Africa, Asia, Australasia...
Jambo! I am currently part of the in country team...

I got a cheap mobile back at home because the one i had was broken, looked quite expensive but wasn't really, and was really unreliable! and then got a sim card out here for about 3 uk pounds. you can get cheap phones here though too. i'd say maybe bring ur mobile but just buy a kenyan simcard here? they're cheap to text back to the uk on! None of us have a phonecard but you need one to make calls from the house phone so maybe worth it? i just use my mobile though x x x x
in the evening at clubs you can wear as skimpy as you like ironically! i've been out in shorts and a vest top but locals will wear nice dresses and skirts buty i didnt rly bring anything nice lol except a peasant shirt and some black linen pants! will probs just wear that from now on to cover up from moz's! white is a colour to avoid too lol, its depressing how dirty things get so quickly! you can ignore it with dark colours! lol. i havent ran out of anything yet so should be ok but thankyou!! x x x
Thanks so much for choosing Kenya as your preferred destination. Kenya is a beautiful country beaches valleys rivers animals mountains just about anything. To crown it all meet it very hospitable, friendly always ready to assist, It's people They are wonderful to be with.
Time, we hardly use our wrist watch hence late by 20 to 20mins and forget to say sorry 4 it. Most of the things here are done slowly.
I know you will love it especially after the 2nd day when u start getting used to it or become Kenyan.
Enjoy yourself and please visit different places.
Hi! hmm pack sun lotion, insect repellant!! clothes that you dont mind not taking home because they will get very dirty and sweaty just from going to project! i took a white bag to take to school every day and after two weeks it was orange, i think coz of the dust and pollution too. bring clothes that cover knees and elbows for project and being around tow, and in evenings its best to cover up for modesty and to avoid bites! there is a big shelf of books here so you dont rly need to bring anything to read, dont bring anything you cant afford to lose! you cant rly wear jewelerry around the project areas coz the kids are amazed by juts my cheap plastic pink watch, and its inviting people to rob you too! hmm bring an eyemask if you sleep lightly! the sun rises at 6 and our curtains are pretty naff and wakes me up! also we dont have a cd player and we hang out on the roof at weekend evenings with someone's ipod and speakers, so if u have that, might be good! bring flip flops!!!!! i brought 2 pairs of trainers, sandals and flip flops and wear the latter every day!! if it rains we need to wade thru water so trainers stay wet lol, if ur coming in july probs wont be a problem tho. you excited? ask anything you want to know! x x x x

Mambo?
Poa. Poa. About your trip to Kenya. I am so jealous. I loved it there, and you probably will as well. I enjoyed living in the volunteer house and Doreen and Nancy are nice, as long as people are treating them with respect (the cook and clean the house.) Please send them my regards. My name is Naeta. Please visit the other projects too. Especially Grandsons, New Hope, and TWAAF. Please, if you go to Grandsons and New Hope, send my regards. You will probably not want to leave, think about it. You might want to extend your stay. If possible. Carry change. Drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day. Wear appropriate clothing, it is appreciated. Shake the hands of the street kids, they like being viewed as people. Introduce yourself to them when they approach you. They'll appreciate it. Please e-mail me about how you and everyone there is doing. I miss Mombasa SO much. Find Holly in my friends list, she can tell you more about Tumiani. Those kids are adorable and spoiled compared to the other projects and you will come to understand why once you get there. They have a website where you can learn more about the organization. Most volunteers love it there, I hope you are able to share in that love.
Best wishes,
Naeta
