Hogacito

I found my first day at Hogarcito both gratifying and challanging.

The children were warm and loving and each strove for my attention, which at times was difficult as there are 20 children in total.

We began the day around the table with a drawing"dibujar" activity . However after drawing a picture for one little girl, Daniella, who proceeded to show it to the "Tias" (the carers) as her own... the others soon caught on and it turned into the more exclusive..."Sarah´s drawing activity."

Although the language barrier through up obvious difficulties, it has made me more determined to learn as much Spanish as possible.

Funnily enough, I did gain a clear understanding of the word "deme" -- "give me", used mostly by the tiny and tenacious Eric during a game of cards.

It was quite heartbreaking to see the children knowing that they were either separated from, or had lost their parents. The sadness was more evident in the behaviour of the older children, who although were happy playing games, at times seemed distanced.

It´s hard to know how to approach them but I think that I could perform an important role in getting to know them and being general companion.

Alas, I must go. More on this and how my Spanish is coming along next time!

Adios mi amigos! Hasta Luego!

Thanks, yes I am. :) I will have to try a game of uno then! Lol yeah probably because your less afraid to make mistakes...or it could be that you just think it does. I will have to try that too! Gracias! Adios! Xxx

Sounds like you're having a good time :) My tip for learning colours and numbers in Spanish is to play uno! I played it with my Colombian family a lot and it really helps :) I also find my Spanish gets much better after several beers... either that or I just *think* it does ;) Try "una cerveza por favour" if you want to test the theory :D Enjoy!! x
