Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHey, thanks so much for getting back to me! hw are you enjoying Goa at the moment? Im goin on the mobile school project so I am really looking forward to that. thanks for the heads up about some people trying to take the piss, I'll be watching out for that, lol!! Im glad the homestay is good, i was a bit nervous about that. In general, how are yo finding Calangute? What are the people like?
Hope you enjoy the rest of your travelling! xxx
hey, im off to goa in june for 5 weeks and will be staying in the homestay in Calangute and would love to hear any tips you have and just a general jist on the whole experience. its my first time travelling so im pretty excited and nervous!!
arrhh!!! officially freaking out. if i manage to navigate my way through all three airports (in all seriousness i am directionally challenged so this is going to be quite a mission) i will see you on sunday! safe travels!! :)
Thanks for the vote! x
Hiya
Hope you don't mind but I'm shamelessly begging for votes as the closing date for voting is fast approaching (in 5th place right now!) and SO many people seem to not be able to vote I need extra extra votes!!
This competition literally means everything to me. I'm now truly beginning to discover who I am, and find the path I need to be on. Winning this trip of a lifetime, one that from a financial point of view I cannot ever really seeing myself being able to afford, would literally change my life, shake up my world and give me another perspective. I beg of you to vote for me more than any other competitor, because not only would I use up every single second of it to the nth degree and make the absolute most of it, I think it would make the most of me. A way to make new connections, spark new possibilities, and give light and hope. A trip to expand and explore, my location and my own mind. A trip. Of a lifetime. PLEASE VOTE FOR ME!

Hey!
I know I can’t believe it’s come so quickly! I’m almost sorted, I applied for my Indian Visa last week, took the day off to go into the city as well. I have a backpack already, (I’ve decided to go with that instead of luggage), my doctor told me to get my shots two weeks before I leave so I’ll be doing that next week. I think you should def get some malaria tablets I’ve been told that’s pretty important. Did you get a rabies shot? One doctor said not to bother but then another one said it’s a must. I think I’ll get it. I’m freaking out about the same thing – getting lost in the airport!! I’m hopeless when it comes to that kind of stuff, the last time I travelled I just followed my friends around. I’m going to be annoying every airport staff member in sight with questions! I go from Melbourne to Dubai, then stopover in Bombay for a night, then arrive in Goa at around 1pm on Sunday 6th. Good lord I hope I don’t have to catch any shuttle buses to different airports! I haven’t even thought about that. I have some crazy long stopovers so hopefully it gives me time to sort it out. So now I just need to buy some appropriate cloths, t-shirts and long thin pants. I’m thinking harem pants. And a mosquito net. What time do you arrive in Goa?
Thank you. The project i did was the Rescued Children from Mumbai, they live in the Mother Teresa Rose Home in Goa; n then i did the Little Flowers of Jesus pre-school. The Mobile bus did not exist then, it sound like a lot of fun, i hope you have a great time doing it.
I was nervous too but Goa is a great place to volunteer. Everyone speaks English and they are very use to tourist (you will still get some stare but those are nothing compare to New Delhi n Mumbai). You can walk all around town, it was very safe (but as usual use caution) They are a lot of shops near Calenture beach, and several internet cafes. I believe December is still off season (or Monsoon season) so always bargain for anything you plan to buy, and tell them to give you the offseason pricing ;)
Also, do not overpack, they have everything you need over there (from shampoo to sunblock) n it is way cheaper than here in the states. Just take those things that you can not live w/o n if u are very picky about a particular brand (i.e. for face lotion n sanitary napkins)
There are also great places to eat (including Dominos Pizza for when you need a break from spicy food) Go to Brittos—they have great desserts and then go to the place next door and have hookah on the beach.
I believe most volunteers stay at Casa Domana, if you happen to stay there please give my regards to Debbie and Richard.
p.s. here is the link where you can vote, all the way at the bottom of the page. Thank you so much.
Take care

haha not stalkerish at all, i asked as well! initially i was thinking about the day care centre but after talking to i-to-i the mobile bus started to sound pretty interesting so i've put my name down for that as well. i freaked out as well when i got the email but luckily we dont have to pay the difference! i may go the backpack too .. i'll see how i go with packing. so no straighteners? i suppose that'll go for hairdriers too.. looks like i will have to invest in some good hair products, headbands/hats/bandanas/scarfs etc! :) x
