My Ultimate Thailand

I've been back home after my ultimate Thailand trip for two weeks, and I've spent the whole time wanting to go back. It was the most amazing experience of my life, and I've made some lifelong friends, as well as some fantastic memories of a time I'll never forget.

Since arriving in Thailand everything was just so brilliant, from the cheap drinks to the delicious food. On the second day we went to a market and shopped until we were literally ready to drop due to the heat. After this we visited the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, which were so beautiful, and then went shopping in the popular tourist area of Khao San Road. Here I had a fish massage, which I highly recommend!

On the fourth day we travelled to Kanchaaburi, and visited the Tiger Temple where we got to stroke lots of tigers and have pictures taken with them. We also visited the Bridge over the River Kwai and war cemetery and museum, which really made me think about the history behind the Bridge. The next day we took a train across Hellfire Pass, and went swimming in Sai Yok Noi waterfall, before going elephant trekking! Then we went bamboo rafting, before transferring to a floating raft house to stay the night. The next morning we all woke ourselves up by jumping off the second floor of the raft house into the lake! We then visited Erawan Waterfall, which was stunningly beautiful, and so refreshing to swim in. We then visited an orphanage, where we spent hours playing with the children, and then left a donation. It made me so humbled to think that the money I was giving them seemed like so little to me, yet to them it was worth so much. These three days were so action packed we all left Kanchanaburi rather exhausted!

On the way to Lopburi, we went on safari, where we hugged and fed giraffes. In Lopburi, we spent a day relaxing at a lake where we rode quad bikes, and then returned to a trike tour around the Monkey City. We also visited the monkey temple and fed the monkeys there. Lopburi is amazing in that the monkeys run around the town, and the hotel was enclosed in a cage so they couldnt get in! We then spent three days living in a Thai temple, learning Thai massage and meditation as well as yoga. Then we went to a local school to learn some Thai language and talk with the students, before boarding a train back to Bangkok.

The next day, I had a Thai foot massage, which was so relaxing, before travelling 8 hours by train to Chumpon. There, we were able to relax on the beach, building sandcastles and swimming in the sea, spending our evenings in a beautiful beach bar. While in Chumpon, we visited an autistic school, and had a cooking lesson, and one night we even stayed up all night to watch the sun rise over the white sand beach.

On day 18 we took the boat to the stunningly beautiful island of Koh Tao. We spent 10 fun filled days here, snorkelling (where I saw two reef sharks and a turtle!), driving ATVs, dancing in the sea at a brilliant bar with fire dancers, scuba diving, and relaxing on the beach. We also went to a ladyboy cabaret, which was very surreal, but lots of fun! This time on Koh Tao was a brilliant chance to really chill out after a fun filled 3 weeks, and we all appreciated the lazy days and fun nights out. After 10 days on the island, we were all very sad to take the boat back to Chumpon, and board the bus back to Bangkok for the last time.

On the last day in Bangkok, we went to Khao San road for more shopping, and I enjoyed a foot massage, as well as getting a henna tattoo of my Thai nickname. I then had an oil massage beside the guesthouse, which left me really relaxed for our farewell dinner. After dinner, tears filled my eyes as I got in a taxi to the airport, leaving behind friends from all sides of the world, and memories which will last a lifetime.

This trip gave me the chance to meet people on other projects, including teaching and conservation, as well as the brilliant group on my own tour. Also the tour guides Tong, Chai and super driver Mon were absolutely fantastic, and ensured we had the most fun possible. I definately want to return to Thailand, as this trip has changed my life in so many ways, and for anyone reading this, I really would urge you to 'just do it!!' Thailand is such a beautiful country, and the people are the most welcoming and friendly I have ever encountered in my life. Given the opportunity I would go back right now, and am seriously considering spending some time working and living there, as I really loved the country and all it has to offer.
