YHA Australia promotes responsible travel with new initiatives With more people than ever interested in voluntourism and responsible travel, the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) in Australia has decided to become more eco-friendly by introducing carbon reduction measures in its hostels.

Now, those on gap years and volunteering abroad projects stopping off along the way in a YHA hostel can be assured that they are doing their bit for responsible travel.

The YHA’s Australian establishments are embarking upon a carbon reduction programme designed to reduce energy across its hostels, which will be fitted with solar water heating systems.

Any cash raised from the endeavors will go towards the hostel’s efforts for more eco-friendly measures.

On the long list of YHA establishments to be involved in the green drive are the Port O’Call Eco Lodge in Port Douglas, Eco-Beach Hostel and Apollo Bay and Halse Lodge Guesthouse in Noosa.

Those who can rest assured that they have done their bit for the environment may like to celebrate by attending Sydney Harbour’s 21st birthday celebrations on May 3rd.
