Would-be expats advised to take TEFL course

Posted 31 Oct 2008

People who are thinking of relocating to another country have been encouraged to sign up for a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course.

According to Shelter Offshore, would-be expats who are still of working age still need to be able to generate an income while they live overseas.

Therefore, the website has stated that taking a TEFL course in advance could be a prudent step to take, as it offers practical skills and an internationally-recognised qualification.

Shelter Offshore added that this could be used all over the world, which makes it a highly "portable" option for those who are thinking of spending time in more than one location.

"If you do want to teach English abroad, make sure your get the right qualifications that really will allow you to travel," it commented.

According to the Office for National Statistics, more than 200,000 British nationals relocated during 2006.
