A former candidate who participated on one of i-to-i’s volunteering abroad in Brazil projects has spoken of how the experience was one of the best things she has ever done with her time.
Amy Stevens, aged 35, said that the people in the area made her adventure all the more intriguing.
They were "fantastic, non-judgemental" and willing to help her learn a few words of the language during her stay, she explained to the gap year specialist.
Ms Stevens continued: "Overall, the experience was the best thing I have ever done. I don’t believe that you could put a price on the education and awareness that I received while in Rio."
The company currently runs various volunteering abroad projects in Brazil – one of these being a programme announced this week that allows participants to work with children of Rio’s favelas and teach them Capoeira.
Another – entitled Join the Party with Carnival Preparation in Rio – allows those with a creative streak to help prepare for the colourful annual event.
