Volunteering while embarking on gap year travel could lead to enhanced employment opportunities, it has been suggested.
Nadia Daer, trekker coordinator at Gapforce, explained that engaging in such work is likely to impress employers, while skills can be developed and added to CVs.
She noted that the experience of living away from home and working with people from other backgrounds and cultures will also look good, in addition to improving communication and teamwork.
"It’s a more kind of meaningful way of travelling," said Ms Daer, adding: "It shows that you made the effort to get involved in something that you feel is important or that helps other people."
Recently, Ms Daer observed that gap year travel has become increasingly popular among those who worried about the security of job.
Many are choosing to find something worthwhile to spend their time on, while looking for employment or even to enhance their chances of finding a job, she stated.
