Visit Outback NSW during a gap year in Australia The number of visitors heading to the Outback in New South Wales (NSW) has increased by 11 per cent over the past four years, one expert reveals.

Project manager at Outback NSW Tourism Glynn Jacobs claims that the level of tourists has been steadily rising over the period and suggests that the best time to head to the region is between April and October.

Travellers planning a gap year in Australia may want to add the area to their itinerary, as Ms Jacobs highlights that there are plenty of activities to get involved in.

Among these is horse racing, which she notes is the centre of many events in local towns, while there are also festivals to attend.

"Lightning Ridge has a wonderful festival over the long Easter weekend which has an arts and craft exhibition, horse races – on the only straight racetrack I have ever seen – and a rodeo," adds Ms Jacobs.

Previously she has suggested that Mungo National Park is a good Outback destination to head to, highlighting that this was the first place in the country to be given UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
