Travellers planning a gap year in Ghana might want to take some time to visit Accra's markets.
Sales and marketing director at dmAFRICA Alan Brown claims that heading into a smaller country town on market day is a great activity.
Among the things people can purchase at such events are everyday items such as fabric and beads, but he notes that there are also products with a more local flavour to ferret out.
"The most popular buy for tourists is a sacred stool, which are various and made according to different traditions and religious motifs," Mr Brown comments.
He adds that guide books can be bought to help tourists select which stool to buy, as the choice can be a difficult one, he explains.
Recently, Ghana was named as a top emerging travel destination by Wanderlust – something that could inspire more gap year students to explore the nation.
