One of China‘s most untouched landscapes has been opened to a limited number of travellers and those on a gap year or volunteering abroad projects in China, it has been revealed.
The untouched area of Keke Xili in Qinghai province in West China will now welcome a maximum of 1,000 visitors a year, in a bid to protect its unspoiled scenery.
Contained in the area are some impressive tracts of grassland, snow-capped mountains and rare wildlife.
A representative from the Keke Xili travel company Xiao Jinghui said that gap year travellers and those volunteering abroad can also support responsible travel and take part in eco-friendly activities during the tours.
Before embarking upon the tour, candidates must undergo a medical check in Qinghai and present a health certificate prior to exploring the region, which is known as ’the kingdom of animals’.
Responsible travel is taking off in China, according to Xinhua News, which reported on news groups in the country that encourage travellers to give something back to the communities and rural areas they visit.
