The concept of reciprocity is being reviewed in Turkey, it has been reported.
An article on Shelter Offshore explains that reciprocity subscribes to the notion that if a foreign national would like to buy a property in Turkey – and if that person’s home nation has regulations in place that would allow a Turkish person to purchase a home in their country – then in theory, the national will be able to buy a Turkish home.
However, the site explains that there have been cases in recent months which have shown that the principle is not always as clear cut and as easy to define as one might hope, resulting in some people being restricted in the property market.
A review is now in place with a view to allowing people from more countries – those in the Middle East, in particular – to purchase property in Turkey.
Such a review could benefit those who already have home in the country, such as those who have moved there to teach English in Turkey, the article suggests.
"It is more likely to mean that the market continues to develop and advance, that prices will remain stable and possibly advance," it concludes.
