Travellers ‘should prepare when visiting the Galapagos Islands’

Posted 16 Aug 2011

Travellers ''should prepare when visiting the Galapagos Islands'' The importance of thorough preparation and consideration for the natural environment before visiting the Galapagos Islands has been highlighted.

Toni Darton, chief executive of the Galapagos Islands Trust, has warned travellers that each isle's ecosystem is delicate and they must be prepared to take certain measures during their trip.

Such steps include cleaning shoes and bags thoroughly prior to setting off and not bringing any food to the region.

He explains that many ecosystems across the world have been damaged by the introduction of new species, which means visitors to the region must do all they can to prevent the same thing happening there.

Among the islands' highlights are seeing the Galapagos Giant Tortoise and penguins on the equator, he claims.

"Every day brings something special. Perhaps the greatest thing is that everyone can feel like Sir David Attenborough and come back with photographs to rival the professionals," Mr Darton adds.

Recently, cruising the Galapagos Islands was named as the top travel experience by Wanderlust readers – something that may inspire those planning a career break to visit there.ADNFCR-1944-ID-800700594-ADNFCR
