Gap year travellers looking to delve deeper into Indian life may want to consider a brand new tour that has got underway in the country.
The India Travel Centre and the Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts are offering a chance to experience the slums of Mumbai.
It comes after the success of the hit film Slumdog Millionaire thrust the regions into the limelight.
Rajeev Olickel, director of operations at the India Travel Centre, said the tour "showcases Mumbai in its true essence, giving travellers a complete mix of real Mumbai experiences and an insight into the real lives of the people".
Participants on the expeditions will get the chance to see how small businesses in the area are run, visit market places and see the Mumbai railway system, which caters for 6.9 million people every day.
Those looking to carry on their adventure by heading to Australia may be pleased to hear Air India has announced it is to increase its flights between Melbourne and Delhi.
