Europe’s top New Year party destinations have been revealed, with London, Geneva and Malaga topping the list.

The research was compiled by Skyscanner, which monitors internet traffic levels.

Other destinations which made the list include Paris, Tenerife and Amsterdam,
Barcelona, where New Year festivities begin at midnight and carry on until the following morning, was named as Europe’s eighth most popular party city.

"Join the locals in the grape eating challenge – the tradition of trying to eat 12 grapes on the twelve strikes of midnight – for every grape consumed you get a month’s good luck, so get chomping," Skyscanner said.

Alicante also featured in the top ten, with partygoers advised to gather at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in El Barrio.

Meanwhile, a recent study by cruise118.com found that the majority of Britons would rather cut back on day to day luxuries than sacrifice their holidays.
