TEFL ‘could be a passport to credit crunch-free climes’

TEFL ''could be a passport to credit crunch-free climes'' As many UK firms cut jobs in a bid to stay afloat during the current financial crisis, taking a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course may provide valuable training for a career in a traditionally ‘recession-proof’ industry.

This is the opinion of travel firm i-to-i, which has highlighted that volunteering abroad after taking a TEFL course may provide some relief from the doom and gloom of the credit crunch.

TEFL courses run regularly in a wide variety of locations and do not cost as much as a university degree, the organisation highlights.

One person who opted for a TEFL is Bruce Levy, who chose it over an MBA course. He stated: "For me it boiled down to an MBA or a TEFL certification. I figured the MBA program would always be there."

Last October, the UK’s Training and Development Agency revealed that it had received 250,000 more enquiries about careers in teaching than it did in 2007.
