Those looking to relax during a gap year tour of Sri Lanka may want to emulate a travel writer and take a cottage retreat in the country.
Reporting for the Daily Mail, Fiona Barton stayed at Wildflower Cottage, situated in the middle of hundreds of acres of tea and surrounded by the nation’s hill region.
The journalist noted the destination has begun to thrive once more after suffering set backs in the form of civil war and the 2004 tsunami.
It was listed as the number one holiday spot for 2010 by the New York Times and visitor numbers were up 60 per cent year-on-year, Ms Barton relayed.
She described the property as a "magical scene" that was "wonderful" as it sat 5,000 ft up and offered views of valleys, lakes and jungle.
Suite101 contributor Christine Head recently recommended visitors to Sri Lanka try their hand at elephant-spotting, as the country and the animal are "almost synonymous".
