The City of Sydney has announced proposals to reopen a car market for backpackers.
In a move that may interest those planning to spend a gap year in Australia, Sydney's local council has suggested the reintroduction of the Kings Cross car market.
The car park would consist of 40 spaces available seven days a week, 24 hours a day from Monday to Thursday and 09:00 to 17:00 between Friday and Sunday.
This measure is hoped to reduce the number of backpackers parking and trading their cars on Victoria Street, which the council is keen to make a greener place.
Highlighting that residents are eager to see improved landscaping, the proposal also notes that local people would like more plants to be added to the historic street, as well as the pavements widened.
Recently, the City of Sydney announced the Greening Sydney Plan, which is set to encourage citizens to be more environmentally friendly through a range of schemes.
