Keen travellers who want to take a gap year but help the environment in the process may want to consider visiting Sydney, Australia, on their adventures, after several new green initiatives were announced in the destination.
According to reports from the City of Sydney, the destination's draft Greening Sydney Plan includes a range of schemes that aim to encourage people to make environmentally-friendly lifestyle choices, such as greening shared gardens, joining land care groups and becoming junior rangers.
In addition, the city wants to plant more street trees, green walls and community gardens, to improve air quality and increase the wildlife living there.
Lord mayor of Sydney Clover Moore commented: "Trees make cities healthier and more beautiful. They bring more people into parks and gardens, they make us cooler on a hot summer day and create places for natives wildlife to live."
The news comes after it was revealed Sydney has upgraded two parks in Woolloomooloo following feedback from the local community.
And it could be that these various green initiatives encourage fans of sustainable travel to visit the city on their next trip or gap year.
