The City of Sydney has revealed it is investing in environmentally friendly vehicles to cut down on harmful emissions in the metropolis.
Hybrid cars and trucks are being introduced to its fleet, it claims, to replace the "petrol-guzzling polluters" – a move that could see emissions cut by some 30 per cent per motor.
People interested in sustainable travel may particularly welcome the news, which shows that within the next three years, the city's local council is set to reduce the emissions that stem from its vehicles by 20 per cent.
"With more solar panel installations and increasing availability of electric vehicles, we are likely shift our whole passenger fleet to zero-emission electric cars over the next few years," comments lord mayor Clover Moore.
Motors such as rubbish trucks and road-sweepers are also being improved with features including environmentally friendly exhausts.
Meanwhile, the council recently released its Greening Sydney Plan, which aims to make the city a greener place to visit.
