Surfing fanatics who are planning to take a gap year in New Zealand may be waxing their boards gleefully at the news that the country will be home to several major events in 2010.
Tourism New Zealand has revealed that the country will play host to the World Junior Surfing Championships at Piha beach in west Auckland in January, showcasing up-and-coming talents in the sport.
The Taranaki area of the New Zealand‘s North Island will also come to life from April 14th to the 18th next year as the women’s leg of the Dream Tour kicks off, marking the biggest ever surfing event to take place in the country.
Brodie Carr, international chief executive of the ASP Women’s World Tour, stated: "The region is ripe with world class waves and it’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talents of our outstanding female athletes."
Meanwhile, a related event, the International Surfing Association’s World Surfing Games, took place in Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica over the summer.
