Students ‘understand each other’ during International Education Week

Posted 21 Nov 2008

A US university has celebrated International Education Week by holding various events and awareness-raising evenings on campus.

Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington included foreign film nights, an early Thanksgiving dinner and presentations on TESOL courses as part of its schedule for the period between November 17th and 21st.

According to the International Student Union (ISU), lots of countries were represented and the main aim was to encourage new friendships and break cultural boundaries.

"International Education Week is to increase awareness of international students at Gonzaga University by having events which both American students and international students can enjoy and understand one another," said ISU member Sayuri Nagai.

TESOL – Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages – is the US version of the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course.

Teaching English abroad is often an ideal choice for graduates who want to see other countries but learn at the same time, as many ex-TEFL students have highlighted how much experience their trip gave them.
