South America gap year "the ultimate" experience Practicing your Spanish and heading out for a gap year in South America is one of the best adventures anyone could embark upon.

This is according to a representative from STA Travel in Liverpool, who was speaking to the Guardian about how suitable South America is for gap year travellers.

She suggests beginning in Brazil before heading to Peru and trekking along the famous Inca Trail.

Another STA Travel worker, Rory Greenfield from Manchester’s Oxford Road branch, agrees, stating that it is becoming more popular for people to take their travels across one whole continent that differs from their own.

"The diversity of culture, landscape and food in the region is unbelievable. You can see glaciers, snow-capped volcanoes, arid deserts, dense jungles and majestic lakes all within one great trip," he explained.

Those who take this advice and head out for a gap year in South America may be pleased to hear that Lonely Planet published its latest guide on the region in early April.
