Gap year travellers looking to pack as lightly as possible for their trip of a lifetime have been offered some top tips.
In an article for the Irish Independent, journalist Pol O Conghaile said it is important to think about the weight of your suitcases and bags.
“A case can weigh three to four kilograms before you throw in the first pair of socks,” he pointed out.
“Consider upgrading your luggage to newer, lightweight materials.”
When it’s time to actually pack, making a list can help travellers work out exactly what they need and avoid stuffing too much into their bags.
A list will also reduce the chances of forgetting something important, Mr O Conghaile added.
Another top tip is to consider buying some items once you reach your destination, particularly those that can be handed over to fellow travellers before you return home.
According to a recent survey by Park Plaza Hotels and Resorts, some 27 per cent of travellers have forgotten to pack their pyjamas when setting off on a trip, while 65 per cent have left their mobile phone charger at home.
