''Skydive onto Everest'' during gap year in Nepal This week, two Brits and one Indian traveller attempted to break the world record for the world’s highest skydiving landing point by jumping from a plane and down onto Mount Everest in Nepal.

In a move that may not tempt those on a gap year in Nepal to follow suit, the trio went into freefall for three minutes before landing 5,165m above sea level on the sandy plateau of Gorak Shep, reports the BBC.

Now, the three men hope to register their efforts with the Guinness World Records committee and will wait to hear whether they have broken the record.

Skydiving on Everest is a fairly recent development, having been permitted ahead of Visit Nepal Year in 2011, the news provider adds.

In August, statistics from the Nepal Tourist Board showed that the number of visitors flying into the country increased by ten per cent in July compared to the previous month, suggesting that more people are interested in visiting, holidaying in or volunteering in Nepal.
