Run the Buenos Aires marathon on a gap year in Argentina It may be too late to take part in this year's Buenos Aires marathon, but athletic gap year travellers planning trips to Argentina next year could have a go.

The 2010 race will be taking place on October 10th and, like any standard marathon, will cover 42 kilometres, or 26 miles.

Runners will probably be too busy to notice the stunning scenery as they pass along the route, but spectators will certainly be impressed.

Highlights include the Obelisco monument, the upscale neighbourhood of Puerto Madero and the River Plate football stadium.

Travellers who are not taking part can join the crowds and cheer on the participants from various viewing spots around the city.

Buenos Aires is the largest city in Argentina and the country's capital.

Those unable to make it for the marathon will find plenty to do and see in the metropolis, from football matches at the Boca stadium to cultural tours exploring the life of the infamous first lady Eva Peron.
