Rio De Janeiro’s prominent Christ the Redeemer statue has been voted the lamest new wonder of the world by a new tongue-in-cheek website aiming to highlight all that is disappointing about travel and tourism.
Christ the Redeemer claimed 53.6 per cent of the votes for lamest new wonder, while Chichen Itza came in second with 12.7 per cent and the Roman Colosseum third, with 9.5 per cent.
Petra, the Great Wall of China and Machu Picchu came third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Other categories featured on the website include world’s worst cuisine, a title which Britain runs away with, worst hairstyle on an air hostess and most overrated museum in the world – an accolade handed to Paris’ Louvre.
Standing at a height of 98 feet, the Christ the Redeemer statue is among the world’s tallest and is situated high above the city of Rio de Janeiro. It was completed by engineer Heitor da Silva Costa in 1931.
