Promoting responsible travel and sustainable tourism in Australia is integral to maintaining its beauty in the future, according to winner of the so-called world’s best job, Ben Southall.
The Brit, who is currently the official caretaker of Hamilton Island – which is located off Australia‘s Great Barrier Reef – told the Daily Mail that as well as blogging, exploring and recording his experiences, part of his job is promoting tourism that is not detrimental to the land.
"What we are trying to do is encourage people to visit the reef in a managed way, to see what is here and understand it must be preserved," he told the publication.
He added that he wants people to experience the beauty of the idyllic area, but this must come with "respect" and "care".
In February 2009, it was reported that around 34,600 people from around the world had applied for Mr Southall’s role.
