Individuals 25 and over are being inspired to embark upon volunteering abroad projects, it has been discovered.
The number of people aged over 25 signing up for volunteering abroad projects surged by 60 per cent in January 2009 compared to the same time last year, according to new data from Projects Abroad.
Ian Birbeck, spokesman for the firm, stated that this could be due to many of them losing their jobs amid the recession and looking for something impressive for their CVs in the meanwhile.
"There’s quite a few who are in the financial sector," the Press Association quotes him as saying.
He added that the fact that many people receive redundancy pay enables them to seize the opportunity to go on volunteering abroad projects.
Meanwhile, one person who likes to travel the world is internationally-acclaimed dancer Joaquin Cortes, who told the Independent last week that he particularly adores South America.
