Gap year tourists hoping to test their endurance while on their travels this year, might want to take part in an event that is making its debut in the country.
Australia‘s first International Adventure Marathon will be taking place on July 31st, according to Austravel.
The race will have the "majestic" Uluru as its backdrop and will welcome competitors of all skill levels.
Participants could experience the outback in the same manner the country’s earliest inhabitants did – by foot.
The contest features a half marathon, an 11-km run and a 6-km competition.
It is described by the organisation as "a must for all who love running, adventure and want to explore the stunning Australian outback".
The surfaces will be mainly off-road, including bush trails and access tracks.
A trip to Taronga Zoo in Sydney was recently recommended by the Youth Hostelling Association for people who would like to experience the wildlife on offer in the country.
